In today's world, companies face increasing demands for automation. Existing information systems must either be replaced or adapted.
After identifying the problem, finding and selecting a suitable software solution is of critical importance.
For instance, a newly established Swiss company in the international transport industry requires specialized industry software. Other European locations should also be considered. The company operates eight large car transporters.
The following requirements were defined for the software:
To find a suitable software, SoftGuide was consulted, which reported that approximately 10 software workstations were planned.
The SoftGuide research team utilized its internal database of tens of thousands of software solutions and additionally searched the internet using relevant keywords to identify newer solutions.
This process uncovered 7 potentially suitable solutions listed in the software directory, along with 11 additional relevant solutions found in the internal database and online.
In an initial comparison of the identified solutions, less suitable options were filtered out.
The research team also created a public tender to invite other providers to propose suitable solutions. Two additional providers responded as a result.
SoftGuide then reached out to the identified providers to gather information about functionality coverage, whether missing features could be implemented through customization, and the projected costs over the next five years. This helped significantly narrow down the list.
Finally, the transportation company had to choose between a few relevant solutions. Although the management decided to postpone the project for now, the market overview was considered highly valuable.
