VPN

What is meant by VPN?

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a network that establishes an encrypted connection over the Internet, allowing users to securely and anonymously access resources as if they were directly connected to a private network. Typically, a VPN is used to enhance privacy and security of the internet connection, especially when using public Wi-Fi networks or accessing sensitive information.

Typical functions of software in the area of "VPN" could include:

  1. Encrypted connection: The software provides a secure and encrypted connection between the user's device and the VPN server.
  2. Anonymity: By using a VPN, the user's IP address can be hidden, increasing anonymity on the internet.
  3. Access to geographically restricted content: A VPN allows users to access content that is normally restricted in their geographical location by providing them with an IP address from another country.
  4. Secure remote access: Employees can securely access corporate resources through a VPN even when they are outside the office.
  5. Protection against surveillance: A VPN can protect against surveillance by Internet service providers, government agencies, or hackers since all traffic is encrypted.
  6. Split tunneling: Some VPN software allows users to specify which data should be sent over the VPN and which should be sent directly over the normal internet.
